Bleeding Cool : What fascinate you about ' A Thousand Blows ? '
Interesting story for this , so before I read the playscript , I had a Old World chat with my agent . Yeah , for sure . I did n’t think they ’d all come in one labor . I thought maybe four freestanding things .
What ’s it like working with Steven Knight as a creative ?
Oh humankind , it ’s been an laurels , honestly . He is more than just a writer . He ’s an artist , poet , truth teller . It was a pleasure to bring his countersign to life and bring the world that he ’s create to life .
How did you prepare for and train for your purpose as Hezekiah ? I suppose it ’s been a process .
Yeah , " process " is a good intelligence [ jest ] . Look , I ’d never boxed in my life before , so there was a lot for me to learn in a short space of time . I had a great coach , David – who come over from Thailand – who basically started me on a training regime before Christmas , and the diet also came with that , which was neat timing . I had about three months before we started filming to get into boxing shape . patently , this is the 1800s , so it was n’t a fourth dimension when citizenry were heavy on the gym , but I still want to get my fitness up and take care like I could have baffle someone up . There was a lot of working out and diet workplace to do ; then there was learning how to box . I was at a disadvantage , experience nothing about boxing , but I knew even less about that period of boxing because it ’s not the same as we fight now .

Francis plays Alec Hughes , my part Hezekiah ’s best friend , and that relationship for me was the most authoritative from the start . As soon as I read the handwriting , I was like , " Okay , cool . I wanted to know who they ’d cast for this guy because it ’s got to be right , " and I ’m so glad it was him . I had n’t worked with him , but I ’d seen him in a show before . I thought he was brilliant in a theatre of operations show , but we had n’t acquaint properly .
I had this idea for us to go to Jamaica before we started shoot . He ’s from Jamaica as well , but he ’s live in London like me . I had several reasons to go . Part of it was to bond with him , another was to do some research out there , and the last was to take a holiday . I want some time to bring together with him and it was unbelievable , and he ’s incredible as an creative person .
It was a delight to work with him , Steven Graham . I ’d mould previously on a film call ' Boiling Point ' ( 2021 ) , I play a little part . This was our 2nd prison term working together and he ’s candidly one of my favorite actors , not to mention one of the best actors of his coevals . It was an honor to memorise from him on and off - screen . He ’s a front , and he became like an older blood brother on set .
Erin , who toy Mary Carr , we did a silver screen test together when she was auditioning . Some unbelievable women came into that way , but across the board , everyone was like , " It ’s her . It was such a pleasance working with her every day , and all the cast were so generous . I remember when we did the cast read - through . Everyone felt so perfect in their part . It was a special job .
You have done a draw throughout your calling . Did you have any pipe dream undertaking you go for to still do , or possibly a musical genre ?
I like to do more in the action world . I ’ve had little taste of it here and there throughout my career , but I would n’t say I ’m committed to like doing an military action film and adventure film like the Indiana Joneses , Marvels , or something like that variety of reality , Star Wars . I ’d love to ill-use into that world , and also , I lie with the physicality that I get to do in this job . I ’d love to explore more of that , more role that involve me to work out a lot .
