Buddy Saunders of Lone Star and MyComicShop.com has differentiate us of his displeasure with DC Comics ' decision to abandon Diamond for distrubution ,

Michael Davisis an artist , writer , mentor , entertainment executive , cobalt - founder of Milestone Comics , conscientious objector - creator ofStatic Shock , Hardware , Icon and Blood Syndicateand creator andhost of San Diego Comic - Con ’s The Black Panel . He save for From The Edge for Bleeding Cooland forComicMix . This week , he is inviting a client , Buddy Saundersto take over . Buddy Saunders , also known as Jake Saunders , bring out the fanzine Star - Studded Comics from 1963 to 1972 that have early study byGeorge R. R. Martin , Grass Green , Jim Starlin , Roy Thomas , Sam Grainger , Alan Weiss , Dave Cockrum , Mike Vosburg , Biljo White , andKeltner , among others , Saunders operated his own ring armour order service commence in 1961 and own and operate Lone Star Comics , a mountain range of seven Texas comic record stores plant in 1977 . With the sale of the Lone Star comic book store chain in 2013 , Mr. Saunders and his family now go the online Lone Star Comics atwww.mycomicshop.com . The store closed down initially a few weeks agobut reopen last week . Michael Davis says " Buddy Saunders is a giant among retailers . I ’m honored to give him the first - ever guest spot at my pillar " . Buddy Saunders headlines his spell " DC ’s project circumscribed spill of titles beginning April 28th leaves too many comic stores out in the cold " and writes , regarding the current decision of DC Comics to bequeath Diamond Comic Distributors , currently shut out down , for two Modern allocator .

Buddy Saunders of Lone Star and MyComicShop.com ‘Staying The Course With Diamond’

" I ’ll tell apart you this up front . In mid - to - late May , a sentence more in line of business with when most stores can reopen , Diamond Comics , our longtime distributor , will resume shipping comics from all publisher base on clean - to - all release dates . Were Diamond to begin shipping earlier , many of our fellow laughable retailers would be left out in the coldness . We very much respect Diamond for make the proficient - for - everyone decision they ’ve made . We are all in this together , fans , creators , publisher , retail merchant and Diamond .

" I require two thing . I want to stand with and tolerate my longtime allocator . I do n’t want to receive and sell comics that many , possibly most , of my fellow retail merchant ca n’t get because their stores are shutter through no fault of their own . Diamond Comics has been our electrical distributor for tenner . I know Diamond ’s owner , Steve Geppi , well . We first met many years ago , ironically at a DC brainiac - force retreat at a Montauk resort on the tip of Long Island . Steve and I were there to help DC editors and creators figure out how to consider with the growing market threat posed by Marvel . Steve was then just another funny store owner like me with no thought of becoming a distributor . But some age later , when my then Texas distributor proved undependable , Steve , along withCarol Kalishof Marvel , made my transition to Diamond silk smooth . There ’s a nifty story in that , but now ’s not the time to tell it . Bigger Pisces to electrocute at the bit .

" DC ’s determination to begin free comics through two newly - coin " distributor " beginning April 28th is ill - conceived . First , there is the matter of timing . Too many comic stores will still be prohibited from being open on April 28th , the first DC release date .

" 2nd , DC ’s new distributors , Lunar Distribution and UCS Comic Distributors , are in realitytwo of the state ’s prominent new comic discounters , Discount Comics and Midtown Comics . No comic retailer should be involved in comic distribution due to obvious conflicts of pastime . The only exclusion to that rule would be a stopgap touchstone undertaken if the current distributor were failing . That is NOT the case with Diamond . Diamond is solid and as reliable as ever .

" Third , these two fresh comic online discounters have no experience as distributors . Even a vastly experienced distributer like Diamond is n’t perfect , but they are very sound at correcting wrongdoing . Will the new guys do as well ? The solvent will occur the first time retailer sample to get support service such as harm replacements .

" Fourth , why are these two Modern distributors necessary ? make new distributor for a brusk - terminal figure fix does n’t make sense . It micturate more common sense as part of a larger long - terminus design . But were Diamond eventually taken out by this process , mid - to - small publishers would be up a creek , a context that would very much profit DC . Marvel taste something similar — becoming their own distributor — years ago . It did n’t turn out for Marvel . Nor will it go for DC if that indeed is their thought .

" Any such move , for whatever need , is unneeded ease up that very soon Diamond Comics will return to full statistical distribution mode when the majority of comic storage can resume sales — most likely mid - to - late May . Every amusing storehouse owner has to make up one’s mind what is good for their computer storage regarding statistical distribution and release times , but great circumstance should be given to foresighted term health rather than to short term gain . Lone Star Comics and MyComicShopwill wait for Diamond , a allocator that has earned our dedication many times over . And we will wait until as many stores as potential can join us in resume hebdomadary comic sales . And when that prison term comes , we ’ll have heap of stock from every newspaper publisher , including all DC discharge .

" This fromBrian Hibbs , owner of Comic Experience in San Francisco : " DC is ask us to ABANDON Diamond . Diamond and Steve Geppi specifically have acted as the " bank " of the Direct Market , saving and protect the great sight of retailers again and again and again . Do I have some problems with DCD ’s operation ? Sure : I ’d be an cretin not to — but on the balance they ’ve done more to preserve DM retailer than ANYONE EVER , so " walk away " from them in this fourth dimension of challenge is completely exclusively a non - starter for me . "

" Last word from Buddy . Thus far I ’ve spoken to only a few comical retail merchant , but those retailers are well established and significant . They favor stay the course with Diamond . I know a batch of retailers read my hebdomadal Lone Star Comics email . Guys , gals , email me atbuddy@mycomicshop.comand share your thoughts on this issue . Let me experience if you are going to go with the DC design or stay with Diamond . I ’ll print some of your feedback , but omit name and addresses to ascertain your ability to verbalise freely .

" Oh , and you the funny sports fan , this pretend you as much as any funnies retailer , publisher or creator . Your two cents ' Charles Frederick Worth is as welcome . Just realize , my plate is mighty full already , so it may be impossible for me to answer to every gossip received — our hebdomadal e-mail give-up the ghost out to many thousands of multitude ! "
