Aside from the solid foundationCobra KaicreatorsJon Hurwitz , Hayden Schlossberg , andJosh Healdbuilt off the existingThe Karate Kidlore , the potent , balanced narrative , and epic returns , there ’s the larger-than-life grievance that helped set the mood for the serial courtesy of composersLeo BirenbergandZach Robinson , who were there from the commencement during the serial ' YouTube day . As the series preps for part three of its sixth and final season in February 2025 , there ’s still more ass to kick as theSekai Taikaireaches its conclusion . Birenberg and Robinson spoke to Bleeding Cool about how they rack up the event to set itself aside from previous tournaments , contrive the themes to the vie dojos not named " Cobra Kai " and " Miyagi - Do Karate , " if the showrunners permit them to tease plot via their score , and what went into the epical Daniel LaRusso ( Ralph Macchio ) pipe dream succession in sequence 10 " Eunjangdo . How Cobra Kai Composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson Scored Dojos & Daniel-Miyagi Sequence

Bleeding Cool : Leo , Zach , what did you want to set up when you started work out on time of year six ? How did you desire to make the Sekai Taikai more epical than premature tournaments in ' Cobra Kai ? '

Birenberg : It ’s ball-shaped in musical scale , so it must be gravid . Our main thought going into season six is like , " How are we going to ? " We asked this every time of year is how we are going to make it bigger than last time ? The write up and existence are expanding , and we need to make that medicine feel like it matches both in term of scope and stakes , which , as you cognise from watching , are life and death .

Robinson : Yeah [ express mirth ] I agree .

When you devise the themes for the various dojos , what went into the thought process ? sealed single credibly warranted their own more than others with the screen clock time , like the Iron Dragons . What inspired you for their report ?

Robinson : It was inspire to look out as viewers of the show get to see rooter witnessing these new dojos and get inspired by see them do karate . We had a splanchnic reaction at the Iron Dragons bring out when we first watched that sequence , so our goal was to read our exuberance as fans and viewers into the score . Some of it was a luck easier , for example , when they ’re fighting the Dublin Thunder , we quickly go to like , " Okay , we have to have a Celtic composition going all fight . With Fe dragon . They do n’t have a world music flavor ; we need to have something fast-growing .

We put in some Spanish - style guitars for Tiger Strike . The Russians have male chant and anvil sound . Then , for the Redentores , the Brazilian squad , we had Brazilian percussion and incense . That was the most fun part of this pulley block .

Cobra Kai Showrunners on the Series Biggest Surprise Guest & Return

Birenberg : A Brobdingnagian part of our creative coming to ' Cobra Kai ' has always been find out way to mash up styles and genres of music . Whether we ’re talking like a spiritual or pastoral thing and turn it into like any of this rock-and-roll matter . Perhaps they go face-to-face or add synth - wave element , like with this whole show had been this like a giant love letter to the 80 is doing where we ’re pick out more than the ' LXXX rock . Where we ’re trying to lend in all these different influence . This was one more direction for us to find a bunch of new influences and bring them like fold up them in today into the ' Cobra Kai ' sound to make something Modern .

Were there subtle things you wanted to add for the Iron Dragons , like switch in a bit of Terry Silver ’s ( Thomas Ian Griffith ) root word , give their eventual draw to him ?

Robinson : The result is no , and I ’ll tell you why . Leo and I do n’t read the book , so when we keep an eye on these episodes in society with Jon , Josh , and Hayden to go over what we want musically in the show , we do not know what ’s go to happen . We are keep an eye on it as fans , and we did not know until the end of episode eight that Terry Silver was involve with the Iron Dragons . We did not know he was fall back .

When we were working on episode six , as the Iron Dragons were introduced , we did not know Terry Silver was go to be in the show . We did not have any idea or any intimation that we should be harkening back to our original ' Cobra Kai ' themes . I will say that I remember Jon want us the fight with De Guzman ( William Christopher Ford ) in sequence seven and then a little bit in early episode eight . Jon wanted us to use the [ John ] Kreese ( Martin Kove ) melodic theme a lot in those episodes to get the attender , the viewer , to think Kreese was a little more involved than what he was in there . My married woman was watching with me ; she did n’t know what was going on and had zero estimation Terry was add up back . I think it crop quite well without hinting he was add up back .

Speaking of muddling things up as far as the surprises go , how do you guys go up Daniel ’s dream chronological succession when he fightsMr . Miyagi ? Was there a unlike approach shot you guy want to take since we ’re habitual to seeing how Daniel remembers him ? How was it different from when you had those flashback from ' The Karate Kid ' moving-picture show and when Daniel uncover element of Miyagi ’s past ?

Birenberg : It ’s a dream chronological sequence , and it ’s also the first time we have seen Mr. Miyagi , like how the net and Reddit call " Prime Miyagi . " Miyagi at his absolute peak when he ’s like literally killed somebody in this tourney , the apex of his fighting art , if not his sapience . We want to make that aspect feel like this legendary persona came to life .

The score is this larger - than - life nod to the retro kung fu movies and martial arts epics from a different stop of storytelling . Our goal in that scenery was to take on that in this retro cinematic way as much as possible . Within that , we have a lot of stem for Miyagi himself , Daniel ’s relationship with Miyagi , and dissimilar component part of Miyagi ’s story . There are credibly like five or six tangential Miyagi idea in the show . We worked all of those into that episode , along with some newfangled material . It was more like we were leaning into the aesthetic of that successiveness . They did this grindhouse picture debasement seem to it , and even the aspect proportion is dissimilar than the rest of the episode , so that was our inspiration .

Cobra Kaireturns on February 13th on Netflix .
