Robinson : The result is no , and I ’ll tell you why . Leo and I do n’t read the book , so when we keep an eye on these episodes in society with Jon , Josh , and Hayden to go over what we want musically in the show , we do not know what ’s go to happen . We are keep an eye on it as fans , and we did not know until the end of episode eight that Terry Silver was involve with the Iron Dragons . We did not know he was fall back .
When we were working on episode six , as the Iron Dragons were introduced , we did not know Terry Silver was go to be in the show . We did not have any idea or any intimation that we should be harkening back to our original ' Cobra Kai ' themes . I will say that I remember Jon want us the fight with De Guzman ( William Christopher Ford ) in sequence seven and then a little bit in early episode eight . Jon wanted us to use the [ John ] Kreese ( Martin Kove ) melodic theme a lot in those episodes to get the attender , the viewer , to think Kreese was a little more involved than what he was in there . My married woman was watching with me ; she did n’t know what was going on and had zero estimation Terry was add up back . I think it crop quite well without hinting he was add up back .
Speaking of muddling things up as far as the surprises go , how do you guys go up Daniel ’s dream chronological succession when he fightsMr . Miyagi ? Was there a unlike approach shot you guy want to take since we ’re habitual to seeing how Daniel remembers him ? How was it different from when you had those flashback from ' The Karate Kid ' moving-picture show and when Daniel uncover element of Miyagi ’s past ?
Birenberg : It ’s a dream chronological sequence , and it ’s also the first time we have seen Mr. Miyagi , like how the net and Reddit call " Prime Miyagi . " Miyagi at his absolute peak when he ’s like literally killed somebody in this tourney , the apex of his fighting art , if not his sapience . We want to make that aspect feel like this legendary persona came to life .
The score is this larger - than - life nod to the retro kung fu movies and martial arts epics from a different stop of storytelling . Our goal in that scenery was to take on that in this retro cinematic way as much as possible . Within that , we have a lot of stem for Miyagi himself , Daniel ’s relationship with Miyagi , and dissimilar component part of Miyagi ’s story . There are credibly like five or six tangential Miyagi idea in the show . We worked all of those into that episode , along with some newfangled material . It was more like we were leaning into the aesthetic of that successiveness . They did this grindhouse picture debasement seem to it , and even the aspect proportion is dissimilar than the rest of the episode , so that was our inspiration .
