This is its own loose five - twenty-four hour period miniskirt conference that withdraw play during Comic - Con . The series focus specifically on libraries and pedagog , and presents Modern advanced ways to admit comics and graphic novels in the educational process .
On Thursday aurora at theCreators , Libraries , and Literacypanel , librarian and educators get to meetRaina Telgemeier , Matt Holm , Molly Ostertag , Zander CannonandMike Lawrenceand discuss the impact that libraries and bibliothec had on their workplace . The general consensus was uncomplicated : libraries are a safe place of geographic expedition . Or , as Telegemeier lovingly stated about them , " There ’s a giant heart above my header . "
Each of the creators credited their love of book and comic strip to get library entree as children . Libraries give many of them a station to explore all different types of literature without any barriers . And , possibly just as important , it roleplay as a physically safe billet to stay coolheaded and out of problem .
Unfortunately , comics have not always been embraced by parents and teachers as educationally valuable medium . But Lawrence credit the changing attitude towards comics in education to librarians who function hard to get comic into the work force of kids . He claimed that one of the big confidence the boot he can get is librarians telling him that his books are always crack out and that he would n’t be where he is now without " librarian fighting a lot of our struggle for us . "
The jury also offered some advice to educators looking for better mode to well support amusing creators : support independent and self - published comic strip . Ostertag suggested that library could start by purchase self - published miniskirt - cartoon strip and suffer in touch with creators at local comic book stores .
jury attendees get to head home with a twosome of freebie , includingGhostsby Telgemeier , as well as advanced reader copies ofSwing It , Sunnyby Matt andJennifer HolmandThe Witch Boyby Ostertag .
