Lunar is planning to dispense non - Diamond distributed comics publishing firm to comic storage in the future , as Diamond come back to distributiion .
In aquestion - and - resolution session with Newsarama’sChris Arrant , DCBS and Lunar Distribution’sChristina Merkleranswered a number of questions about Lunar , DCBS and being a distributor of DC Comics . We learned pretty much what we already knew about what wa happened and what had happened . But Merkler did sing about the future . When asked about take on other publishers , in a serial of separate reply to a mixed bag of questions , she suffice ;

We have had a few smaller publishers inquire , but we have not signed anyone else .
We have had several enquiry and we plan to take after up with them in the next week or so . We are still sum up to our substructure and processes and do not want to take on more until those are complete and we have our organization run swimmingly .
For quite some sentence , DCBS has invite inquiries from many small publishers regarding distribution that may not presently have dispersion set up through Diamond .
Now that we have fundamentally been forced to create some infrastructure due to the crisis , we may be able-bodied to accept those request in the future tense .
With the infrastructure we ’ve build up to distribute DC ’s comic Book as Lunar , we could still potentially help other publishers – even those that peradventure are n’t even really being servied by Diamond , or those that want an choice . I mean there ’ll be a office for Lunar when Diamond returns .
Once Diamond is up - and - running and fully back to business , we ’ll believably value everything on the Lunar side of things and our nidus travel forward . And I recall that focus would be remove maintenance of autonomous publisher who may not be presently serve by Diamond .
There have been other humble press statistical distribution challenges to Diamond Comic Distributors hegemony over the preceding couple of decades but none cohere . The most successful may be the lineal - to - customersofferings of Shortbox , but this would be a very different and more commercial-grade apparatus . Diamond has minimum fiat levels that some publishing house retrieve hard to meet . A commonly state example of this is that , if it were n’t for Oni Press ’s other titles bumping up the numbers , Scott Pilgrimwould have received too few orders for Diamond to have agree to distribute it on its own . Also we have seen the likes of Devil ’s Due and Alterna leave Diamond Comic Distributors exclusively . Might Lunar bid an alternative , with a structure that is already serving DC Comics – for now ? Would UCS do something similar ?
