Apple TV+ gave the team behind Mythic Quest a chance to swap out the cliffhanger finish with a dead on target Ending ( as video game call them ) .

In the final prospect , a heartbroken Ian turn back to the part to continue to work on the enlargement he and Poppy and create together . They bicker as they always do , but she insists on knowing why he insist on derive back to work on their expansion . Then they sit at their desks – hers is empty – and start to bicker all over again . Life goes on . You could indicate that the rightful Ending is the better one because the " OMG ! THEY in conclusion KISS ! " cliffhanger conclusion broke the series ' central relationship by have Ian and Poppy snog when the real heart of their love story was never sexual but their common respect for each other ’s science and talent at make game . They ’re complemental soulmates who are more sib than lovers , and to dial up the sexual tension might have been a sign that the series had bunk out of idea , so it was probably just as well that the serial ended here . for sure , it would have been fun to see the rest of the cast go through yet another chapter of changing - but - staying , where they find new way to torture each other , but leaving the audience wanting more is the better way to go .
Apple TV has hit the original cliffhanger finish , so it ’s like it never existed , but it ’s really no great loss . The honest Ending make more sense for Ian and Poppy … especially as a series finale .
