No Man’s Land Star Leo Hatton on Navigating Through Ellie’s Dark Journey
Bleeding Cool : What intrigued you about ' No Man ’s Land ' ?
I found the subject matter very complex and bass . What I found challenging is it ’s based on tangible events and things that happened . My character was found on an uniting of various westerly women who went to join ISIS at that sentence . As an actress , when you ’re looking at a theatrical role at the extreme point , you could go into the depths of why your character does something , why her actions happen , and all those thing .
If you ’re sitting there , you ’re bring in up a character , you do n’t have that savings bank of selective information about other people ’s live experience that you could run , and the other stuff . If I go back to where I was when this was happening , I was following the issue in Syria with abject horror and terror . I was lock with the case as they unfolded in real clip , and so it was quite a unusual full circle moment when [ the role of ] Ellie landed on my desk , because I was completely horrify by the consequence , and therefore following it daily .
When it came around that I could search all that through Ellie , it was like , " Wow ! This is strange , " and 10 geezerhood had return . I forgot how much I had been looking into that new story and how much I ’ve been wait at the effect as it happened . When the part came around , it was like , " Cool ! I can put my raw intrigue , " I mean I ’m not intrigued in ISIS in a good way , but in a horrified agency . As actors , we ’re always looking for those parts that can go to the depth of the human experience , and that ’s what Ellie does ( for me ) . She call for some of the biggest questions in living .
Was there something that help you get into Ellie ’s headspace , homework - smart ? Is there something psychological , like a book , photographic film , or music , that guided your way ?
I have n’t run into anything specifically around a young woman decide to link up a movement like that . There have been some great performances , but there were a few podcasts , like serial of women who were viewed , who joined , and they were fascinating to take heed to . I drew on a lot of my own stuff I had inside of me , like quite a bunch of experiential question I ask .
I would n’t say that there was one specific thing , but quite interestingly , I use Sissy Spacek from ' Badlands ' ( 1973 ) because … possibly that was more expert , like the accent . I thought about Ellie and how she was catch up in the Earth , things were befall around her , and to her . She fell in love with this [ life ] and with someone . It was that place and limerence where your affair are unfolding around you , how fighting are you in your choices , and how passive are you ? That role Sissy Spacek ( as Holly ) plays was quite a smashing influence on some parts of Ellie , not the full parts of her .
What ’s it like lick with Amit [ Cohen ] , Maria [ Feldman ] , Ron [ Leshem ] , and Etan [ Mansuri ] as creatives as they pilot the show ?
They ’re awesome . Marie and Etan , as producers , are unbelievable . They were incredibly collaborative . They ’re supportive and originative . They give space for the worker to ask the head that are needed to do such cryptical study . I always say to people , and this also has to do with our director , Rotem Shamir from ' Fauda ' . He ’s such a fantastic theatre director who give everyone the outer space to fall into their own , and he does n’t take over . He is an unbelievable guiding force , so the whole team was a magical experience . It was like making theater for television , and how collaborative and extraordinary it was .
time of year two ofNo Man ’s Land , which also starsSouheila Tacoub , is useable on Hulu .
