RuPaul ’s Drag Race Season 17 " Rusical " arrived , with The Wicked Wiz of Oz a delightfully proud gambol through musicals and classic character .

On the whole , this is a fantastic installment – tricky songs , mostly good performances , and memorable character . Jewels Sparkles , oh girlfriend , they were laughing at you , not at your execution . For starters , she fought Kori King for this part , which is the " Dance Ten , Looks Three " expressive style song about being a curvy poof . Miss Sparkles is the size of a toothpick , and she really did n’t pad much for this – the song is called " 40 - 20 - 44 , " but in her casing , it was more like 32 - 24 - 36 and fell a number flat . It was unintentionally uproarious for obvious reasons , and the fact that her tiny piddling egis keep back slipping out of the costume , unintentionally flopping around in a hilarious closet malfunction that I was n’t totally sure was unplanned . At least she made the Book of Judges express joy and was safe and memorable .
Arrietty / Lexi Love / Lana Ja’raewere the Scarecrow , Lion , and Tin Woman , respectively , aka the " Friends of Dorothy , " and that song has been firmly planted in my head for the last hebdomad . That ’s not necessarily owing to leading vocals or performances , but that speak volume for the song ’s writing and direction . The performance were good and memorable , well deserved , and safe all around , even if these ladies are n’t all singers ( it turn out amercement ; pitch correct is a wonderful pecker ) . I will say , I did actually enjoy Lana this hebdomad – her expressions and body language were blot on .
Sam Starhad the other Sung dynasty that ’s an earworm this week , and that ’s the Cher - exalt Wicked Witch issue . She also originally tossed her hat in the ringing for the Kansas Dorothy theatrical role , but after Lexi reminded her that the justice need to see something not prissy and polished from her , she went with the Cher character and won the calendar week . It showed the jurist her giddy , unserious side , and she dead crushed it .
Kori KingandLydia Butthole Kollinswere the flight monkeys , and it was … lackluster . Lydia was praised by the judges for always stick around in character … but that was about where the in force attributes of this number stop . This would be the perfect issue for a queen who can not sing to relieve her life … and Lydia sings well , which sort of made this routine dud . Meanwhile , Miss Kori is not bless with pipes , and rather of the rascal that does n’t blab , she play the opposite one . The whole thing did n’t really work or make much horse sense , and I can see why Kori King was sent mouth - syncing again . If only they were vers and had flip function .
Onya Nurvewas great , as per usual . Harlem Dorothy did palpate a small dependable and very expected of her , but at this point in the rivalry , most things she does find that style . I am waiting for the judges to assure her to hold on playing it safe , but since she is one of RuPaul ’s favorite , it ’s improbable as long as she keeps trifle to her strengths and delivering the funniness perfectly tailored to the judge .
Acacia Forgotas Kansas Dorothy ? Guuurrrlll , this was rough . First off , there was a big fight over who father what part ( course ) , and Acacia crusade Suzie for the " aged out old Hollywood starlet " part , which was kind of accidentally strategic because had Suzie done this part , she likely would have taken a third winnings . The song was a ballad that close down the solo numbers in the show , and she just did not turn it . She park and barked , but really without the bark , more like a diminutive Chihuahua yap at best . Acacia just did n’t really do anything with this grapheme , and the joke ’s on her because that end up sending her abode instead of her crush it and pulling ahead like I ’m sure she intended .
I do n’t think I ’ve enjoyed a Rusical this much ever – it ’s backbreaking to go amiss with Wizard of Oz plus A Chorus Line ? It ’s the real formula for bloom bivouac enjoyment without being cringe ( well , aside from a few number ) . Overall , it felt like a recurrence to form for the show – not only owe to the queens ' tape their own vocals but in universal as a production figure . The challenges onRuPaul ’s Drag Racestarted out to test the queens on life-sustaining aspects of the line of work , which was in the first place in homophile nine , where hosting , drollery , brim - syncing , dancing , and bragging gay product numbers with stupid joke and birdsong were expect . This is the first Rusical in a long metre that feels like it could be a yield number at a club , and it feel right to pay homage to gay story , especially with a casting of well-nigh all younger queen .

In the immortal words of Lizzo : it ’s about blasted time . RuPaul ’s Drag Raceseason 17 at last feel like it ’s pick up steam and found its foothold ; it only took a good 7 episode or so . Next week ’s challenge is aBetsey Johnsondesign challenge , with the designer herself making a client appearance . Her style is so iconic I can not waitress to see what the queens amount up with this week .
