RuPaul ’s Drag Race featured another acting challenge for the female monarch , this one based on the Ryan Murphy series with a Truman Capote theme .

MTV’sRuPaul ’s Drag RaceSeason 17 has finally gotten good ( it only take aim half the season ) , and this calendar week ’s scripted acting challenge is nothing short of a delight to observe . Top tier up " Drag Race " episode , for sure , at least so far in this time of year . It carries the same energy as the Rusical , which is telling for an roleplay challenge . The tabby are tasked with starring in a " eminent camp tale of betrayal " found onTruman Capoteand his Swans , called " Ross Mathews vs The Ducks . "
Who the f * * * is Truman Capote , anyway ? Basically , he was like the 1960s gossip girl . He befriended all these red-hot , robust socialite and then published all their tea , except he used his own name . His besties , aka the swan , all turned on him , and nobody bank him again , which tanked his literary career . So much for one of the weird uncle of modernistic news media — Hunter S. Thompson , eat your heart out .
But I digress . The queens this week were clearly given a primer on the firstPerez Hiltonand turn it out . Well , for the most part . The socialite " swan - character , " aka The Ducks , are all modeled after realism diva , likeTiffany " New York " PollardandLisa Vanderpump .
Cheyanne Jacksonfrom AHS is here directing the challenge this workweek , and boy , is he dreamy . Will he distract the queens ? WillRoss Mathewsmake out with him ? Will RuPaul ? Time will tell ! It ’s me , I ’m metre . deplorably , no making out , but Cheyanne and Ross do run off together in the end in hunt of the " back door . " Spoiler alert !
The runway for the week called for shameful and white ballgowns , following the Truman Capote theme . Here ’s the tea on how everyone did :
Lydia B Kollinsdid not eat that challenge . She basically starved the challenge , or whatever the opposite of feeding is . Sadly a floating-point operation and her runway just looked confusing , but it was very Butthole . Long thing on the arms , mismatch of black and lily-white patterns and pelt and fox tail assembly , it was a lot . A very expect bottom two placement for her this week .
Sam Starcan do no wrong in my eyes . Okay , that ’s not dead on target , but I be intimate her and absolutely settle down for her even when it ’s not her calendar week , but this was not that calendar week . She did amazing , as common , and her rails was PERFECT . I mean , pitch-dark - and - bloodless Venetian Jester ballgown ? GAG . And I do n’t think we ’ve see that on Drag Race before , at least not like this .
Onya Nurvecan do no legal injury in the eyes of the judges , and her edit is basically the " Sasha Colbygood at everything " edit , which generally spells a win . But she is smashing this Drag Race season for the most part … except for this week ’s rail . It was alright but was well overshadowed by other looks this week . irrespective though , she did win the week .
Lana Ja’Raekeeps skating through , though she arguably did not merit her bottom - two placement this week . She partner with Onya for her scene , and it really helped her take out some enough pretend out of her . Her rails was nice ; she did a better job than Lexi , whose rail was mildly atrocious .
Lexi Loveshould fade into the background , but yield is TRYING with the edit to get us to like her . It ’s not going to happen . Sorry about that . Her looks are essentially all the same , and every single calendar week , it ’s the same plot line . Plus , now her weird one - sided beef with Suzie Toot ? Hard pass , along with the judge refusing to say anything constructive or negative about her performance or runway .
Suzie Toothas get the " Jinkx Monsoonedit " even though she is a dissimilar fag . It ’s the " I ’m well - labialise and be intimate it , and the girlfriend kind of hate me for it , but I ’m not a villain " edit , which can be off - putting , but with Suzie , it ’s come back around to endearing . Her vintage track I absolutely last for , and this week is no exception . The only fracture of the calendar week here is her take up a wig from Onya and having the luscious deep brown - gloss lace all across her very pale forehead .
Jewels Sparklesis just alright – I mean , she ’s blow the challenge to varying degrees but pulling out the runways . She just feels generic , and it ’s develop old about three episodes ago , no matter how endearing she is . Her runway absolutely saved her from the bottom two this calendar week , though I ’m not indisputable it was that effective of a rails .
The lip sync this week was " Unholy " by guest judgeSam Smith , and with a song like that , there is zero excuse for not absolutely deplete it up . But in the " Drag Race " laugh of the century , Miss Lydia had the lip sync almost in the bag but then sabotaged herself about midway through by pulling out scissors and proceeding to cut off off the bottom of her dress , get stuck in it , descend , and eat up her lip sync count like a beached mermaid fascinate in a fishing net while try out to get her heel dislodged from all the swing up fabric she was stuck in . fille , that was a mass . Clearly , she did n’t stand a fortune after that , and Lana won ( she did alright , but until the scissoring , it was n’t clean she was winning this ) .
Next calendar week ’s challenge looks to be some kind of monologue writing / execution - based challenge , alaThe Vagina Monologues , so we ’ll see how that goes . I ’m still piquant about the lack of a miss group challenge this season , which we ’re not likely to get since the makeover challenge is still to come after this ; then , we ’re on to finale activities .
