RuPaul ’s Drag Race offered a monologue challenge that was dear … ? Plus , a runway radical that was emphatically in the eye of the perceiver .
MTV’sRuPaul ’s Drag Raceis showing its feminist side ( or not ) with its take onThe Vagina Monologues , challenging the six continue queens this week to work in pairs and tell a story of a time in their life that suit the prompt pay , while the other female monarch performs an interpretive dance acting out the fib . All in all , this should be a one - off challenge and not retrovert in subsequent time of year ; it just was n’t throw , and it was a footling irritating watching the queens seek to figure it out and then flounder their style through it . If the Book of Judges wanted another challenge where the queens hand them shady faces and silly storey , there are a million other ways to get to that oddment . But I digress ; here ’s how everyone did in this very objective , pure talent - based , and not - at - all jurist favoritism challenge :
The curse of the clown is back , alas forSam Star , whose jester ballgown last week land the circus collapsible shelter down . This week was just not her week , between goingDance Momswith the interpretive dancing portion and get the soliloquy in a too - substantial and serious counseling for the judges ( and it was n’t even that serious ) . But that ’s not realness . It’sRuPaul ’s Drag Race , notEden ’s Competition for Quirky Drag Queens , so RuPaul phone the shots here , and we just have to last with it . Suzie is dependable … again .
Jewels Sparklesis secretly as hilarious as she is glamorous – the mini challenge where she had to compose a bio for Suzie was absolute perfection , right down to misspell " cerebral . " Her execution , though ? It was mid , as was her runway . fishy how both queen from House of The Tuck got translate this calendar week for not having dresses that were frightful . If you take me , that ’s a winnings in and of itself ( and also an " surly dress " contention has no post inRuPaul ’s Drag Race , it ’s a stunned composition that ’s clearly not allow for rendering ) .
MissLana Ja’Rae , gurrrlll … how are you still here ? No teatime , no shade , no pink lemonade , but she ’s lip - synced for her life three times prior to tonight , and the judges do it that . It ’s a petty dissatisfactory in that so much of it feels excessively manipulated , and we get the sentiency that even withUntuckedand things that queen regnant say in interviews or at event or on podcasts , we ’re not seeing a lot of what really happened .
It ’s no mystery that many show cast contestants to " fit the mold " so they can assign plot line and then add in what they need to in order for the ranking to touch what they decide they were going to be ( i.e. , casting a pageant queen and get her break out of her perfect polished shell , or having the camp queen have a serious second ) . No shade to the queens at all but full shadiness to production . Everyone is unlike , and it would still be good TV ( probably better TV ! ) without all the preventative and manipulation .
The judging , in special , feels to a fault subjective and rife with favouritism : two queens could do the exact same thing , but one would get criticise , and the other praised simply for being a production favorite . I know production and the Book of Judges have their reasons , and their motive is to make expectant tv set , but it feel loud and gets really old . Was it a little past Lana ’s clock time to go , yes , but did she do badly this workweek ? Not really . Did Onya crush it this week ? wholly ! But did she deserve the winnings ? Eh …
Next week is the makeover challenge , and historically , this has been the challenge with the most subjective judgement as it ’s witness as an opportunity to get disembarrass of the queen production that does n’t desire to make it into the finale . But regardless , watching queens put their parent into drag always warm my moth-eaten , stagnant small heart .
