MTV ’s RuPaul ’s Drag Race Season 17 Ep . 14 saw our queens thinking , " Vegas , baby ! Vegas " as they auditioned for the live Las Vegas show .
MTV’sRuPaul ’s Drag Raceis come near the finish line , but before we pass on our final destination , the first stop consonant is Las Vegas ! To be specific , theRuPaul ’s Drag Race : Liveshow at the Flamingo Las Vegas . This week , the five remaining queens have to contend for a headlining point in the Vegas show after their time onDrag Race , and of row , a spot in the final four for the season 17 crown . Just a point of clarity before I go on , though . What pursue are my personal thoughts and spirit on the instalment and the season overall – words like " rigged " and " riggery " are n’t meant as any kind of serious charge towards anyone doing anything suspect . I prefer those for my authorship manner to mean that the producers and editors could do a better of offering more well - rounded looks at all of the queen competing .
Onya Nurveis the clear frontrunner , and I detest it . Make this at least experience like a clean conflict , please . Yes , yes , she ’s sickening – and has a peachy story , and is merit , but the edit this time of year has pushed her to gain , and frankly , it ’s a minuscule annoying always see " Onya can do no wrongfulness , she always make the justice express mirth , Onya has 4 wins , Onya is totally plump to take the crown unless she swash it in an mad manner , " which is very unlikely . She ’s a fantastic world-beater , yes , but it feels hollow and formulaic at this point .
Jewels Sparklesis the other frontrunner at this item , and that ’s a surprising twist give that she ’s been lustreless in this contention and has the track criminal record to shew it . If this turning came peradventure midway through the time of year , I would be here for it , but have this upswing in a season aright at the end when she should have gone home at least twice feels trashy . In the Vegas promo , she ’s prove so hard to make this " ting ! " thing occur , and I absolutely execrate it .
It ’s like fetch ; it ’s never choke to happen . She feels like she ’s " found her shoes " in the competition , but unluckily , that place is a generic female monarch who ’s pretty good at lots of things and has a standard " drag queen girlie - pa " kind of face , and it ’s boring . BORING . It ’s a parody that boring queens make it so far in this competition just on the deservingness of doing well for a challenge and then continuing to coast . It ’s too little too late for Jewels , and run into the finale , if it ’s in earnest down to her vs Onya , the producers have done her dirty because that ’s far from a clean combat anywhere outside of a lip sync .
Lexi Loveis another queen I feel standardised about — she was be sick to check the box for " manner queen who ’s in her foreland , " but her storyline this season was a small too lackluster , and I really dislike her from the jump . Her looks are great , but the path the edit focused on her aliveness struggles every week , as well as this stable silhouette , was deadening before we even got to the cunt game , which she should have gone home for .
The fact we have not seen her in the bottom two is absolute riggery to the decimal point where she does n’t even sense like a real competitor , just some shape of nepo engage they ca n’t get rid of . Does she have blackmail on RuPaul or something , and that ’s why she ’s been coasting this long ? It ’s vexatious when queen with a real stop of view and personality who really tried at a challenge and cerebrate out of the corner leave when queens like Miss Alexis Love here extend to just coast on the virtue of making entertaining realness TV interview clips .
Suzie Tootis an interesting king , and she has a schtick and personality to bring up . Sadly , it feel like we ’ve been surcharge in the edit this season because they do it her , great critiques and wins , and then dead it ’s the Suzie hate train , and she ’s gone right before the finale . Like , what ? Make it make sense , they hat that she showed HER personality they ’ve done nothing but praise in the promo TV and call it " not Vegas enough " like … hello , people issue forth to Vegas for personalities . Do you thinkCeline Dionexudes Vegas vibes ? Not really , but that does n’t stop her annual residency from selling out .
Vegas is about the draw of personalities , and if you think that Jewels is go to wreak more masses to the show than Suzie , you have no idea how marketing works . RuPaul is delusional , and the only reason that earn sense to cut off Suzie out of the finale is that they ’re saving her for other shows or opportunity down the melodic phrase . There were several percentage point this time of year where she should have been at the top and even succeed , which would make her , Onya , and Sam even as far as runway records go . But alas , this isn’tEden ’s Fairness Race;it’sRuPaul ’s Riggery Race , and it feel bad at this minute and has for a lot of this time of year .
Sam Stardoes fill up the " pageant queen who amount out of her shell " barf this season , but at least she ’s gratifying to watch in and out of retarding force . She has a personality , her looks are churn up , and she ’s still poised . Of the finalist , she and Suzie are the only ones who come close to let as much personality as Onya , and it ’s a shame they were both at the bottom this week , with Lexi and Jewels prioritized over both of them . This really isRuPaul ’s Subjectivity and Favoritism Rac , eafter all .
Perhaps this is a prime example of society outgrow the honest-to-god reality TV system and tropes – we no longer call for or prize the same cookie - cutter contestants time of year after time of year with sensationalized dramatic event that ’s obviously fake when the drama of a gamey - bet contender with big personality is enough . The producers and editors here need to take a more hands - off approach and allow the hearing remember for themselves and draw their own ending or else of being spoonful - fed exactly how they should intend and find .
Next week ’s installment is the annual rim sync Lalaparuza , which brings back all the excrete missy and matches them up in lip syncs angle bracket - expressive style . The week after is the stopping point , and our final four are locked in and quick to fight back for the treetop .
