Gillis ’s opening monologue – which should ’ve been where the stand - up comic ’s minute to really shine – was a running play of topics that just did n’t hit . It matte up more like an open mic night – and Gillis taste to write off the crowd ’s lack of laughter as having to do with them being " liberal " did n’t help his movement ( especially considering theDonald TrumpandJoe Bidenrants equally take in crickets ) . A number of the sketches felt like funny jokes from a stand - up routine stretched out mode too long , but even that would ’ve been salvageable with a host who was n’t provide it to the roll to do the comedic heavy lifting . rather , Gillis offered a suaveness to his segments , as if he was focalise on just read the clew wag and getting through it rather of being in the moment .
