The Bondsman Star Maxwell Jenkins on Working with the “Two Greatest Actors and Musicians” in Bacon and Nettles
Bleeding Cool : What intrigue you about ' The Bondsman ? '
A whole circumstances of things , I mean , partially the horror music genre commingle with those fishy , relatable , and sometimes intense family moments . I love it when you could combine those two human beings because it present the horror ( MBD ) stake when you have a phratry that move as the heartbeat . Also , the music was intriguing to me , scram to go with two of the not bad histrion and greatest musicians . That ’s rare , and they ’re just enceinte . Jennifer [ Nettles ] , Kevin [ Bacon ] , Beth [ Grant ] , Damon [ Herriman ] , and Jolene [ Purdy ] . It was just an unbelievable cast I get to learn so much from in that respect .
What ’s it like wreak with Erik and Grainger as creatives ?
I have yet to be on a set survive into pre - production that has such a grasp on the humans they need to create . Grainger create this unbelievable world , and Eric is the captain of our ship who was so prepared . This is n’t his first rodeo , but we showed up there , a close - knit dramatis personae – he got all of us on the same page . He had a background of the Halloran class going back generations for us to reference , so it was passing helpful .
How does playing in this world liken to the stuff and nonsense you ’ve done before ? Did it feel within your pilothouse , or did you have to go a petty outside your comfort zone ?
There were some aspects I felt more well-heeled in than others , but all around , it was a challenge that I was frantic to take on . The horror affair , I ’ve experienced a bit . I had done some repugnance undertaking , and sci - fi shows with their fairish parcel of jump scares . This was unique as a horror comedy , which I have n’t done much before . If you look at my track track record , I have n’t done many drollery . That was for certain a challenge and something I was eager to explore , and then the music facet . I ’m a instrumentalist and an actor , but I ’ve never been capable to bridge those two , and euphony has such an ability to bring a group of masses together . When you supply that into a taut - knit pocket-size cast , you become close .
Was there anything you nibble up from being around a more seasoned cast of characters member like Kevin , and did you spill to him about learning the craft ?
So much from Kevin , for sure . The biggest matter was how he conducts himself off - camera was the respectable thing I picked up on . Despite all his experience , cognition , and accomplishment , he is so existent , opened , and collaborative , and so much about the workplace he wants stimulant from a destiny of multitude . He ’s not closed off to new ideas , which is something impressive to see , and as I continue to work and spring up and have something , I require to verify I keep on it because that ’s what makes him such a phenomenal actor and creative to work with .
You ’ve had a bang-up run on the Netflix version of ' Lost in Space , ' and I was wondering what you make of the bequest you built on that franchise .
Talk about a franchise that is so historical , I huge skid to fill ( as Will Robinson ) , and Billy Mumy ’s a fable , as is ( creator ) Irwin Allen . I pretend the thing I ’m most lofty of that show is I ascertain after we finished up how end the original cast had stayed together , and they ’re still friends to this day . I was hoping that we would stay near together , and we did . I still talk to Parker and Toby ( Stephens ) all the prison term . I see Mina ( Sundwall ) in LA all the time . I intend really .
The Bondsmanis available on Prime Video .
