The Return of Oxford ’s Small Press Comic Book Convention , Caption , for August 2025 … contribution most gratefully bear
Through the nineties , noughties and a chunk of the teens , I make love croak to Caption , a small press comic book convention held mostly in Oxford , where I lived for a duo of years . It leave me to get a line the work ofJeremy Dennis , to keep that ofTerry WileyandMark Stafford , as well as hold farseeing conversation into the nighttime withWoodrow PhoenixandMatt Booker . It ran as a non - profit festival from 1992 – 2017 , until life got in the way . But it will now be return to Oxford in 2025 , as Caption : REBIRTH on the 16th of August . And is going for a fundraising drive right on now on IndieGoGo , courtesy ofAmy Letts , who helped organise two previous Captions . Others involved launch the Modern Caption let in Emily Brady , Andy Luke , Barry Renshaw , Matt ChambersandVickie Bernard . Amy Letts writes ;
Unlike commercial-grade comedian conventions , Caption has always been non - profit . Its sales mesa is run by the organisers , allowing Creator to range innocent and amalgamate with rooter in a relaxed , non - pressured environment . Without roadblock , everyone got involved in Talks and Workshops , by nature networking , swop tip and get friend with people with a shared interest in comics . Our destination is , quite simply , to bring Caption back so that more multitude can share in the positive and unequaled risible fete experience .
As an Autistic someone , I personally found Caption the most well-heeled and welcoming experience I have ever had at a comics issue . For Caption 2025 it is my personal goal to make it as accessible and neurodiverse - favorable as potential .
Caption ’s different mode of selling comics allows for creators to get straight to societal interaction and real networking , without anxiousness . In a market where distribution is difficult , the sales board lets creatives access their lecturer , and the social space reserve for those introductions . meeter get to make striking in a favorable surround with an chance to relax and an ethos of fun .
They are looking to raise between two to three thousand pounds to fund the Caption Festival . " Around £ 1200 will go to lease a venue to accommodate aprox . 100 meeter , £ 800 for printing fliers , brochure , badges and t - shirt etc . and finally £ 1000 for our Special Guests . " And they have digital and strong-arm perks for those who donate now , including Digital Pass , Remote Pass , Day Pass , Weekend Pass , Royalty Pass , fete T - shirts and enigma comics bundle . Amy continues ;
They are currently just shy of a thousand pounds and the financial backing trial until tomorrow , I am just about to donate myself , why not get together me ? Whether you are going or not , if it goes ahead , I promise to report back for Bleeding Cool for all of those who ca n’t make it to Oxford … it’salways a just excuse to fall .
