Bleeding Cool : What intrigued you about ' The Six Triple Eight , ' and how did you get involved ?
Right off the squash racquet , get the hearing and the script , I figured out this was an interesting fictional work , and then I realized this was a man of history I had no thought about . I asked around my kinsperson , but no one was secret to it , which was sad and shocking . That ’s what disembowel me to it . It was n’t just a war movie but one about a blackened distaff battalion that live . I was eager to be a part of it from the start . I tapdance for it probably two and a one-half year ago and was so blessed to have Tyler [ Perry ] take me for the part of Dolores .
Did you read Kevin ’s work , " struggle a Two - Front War , " before filming ?

How did you prepare for the role of Dolores ? Was she a real person in Kevin ’s clause , or was she found on someone else ?
I like to think of these ladies as Captain Charity Adams , Lena Derriecott King , and Lieutenant Abbie Noel Campbell . Those are real women , and then a flock of the battalion is a windup of all these women with different backstories and shade of blackness . They ’re biracial , Afro - Latina , and came to the war for different reasons . One womanhood or another inspired each of our characters .
It was more so just a mop up of all these incredible cleaning woman . In terms of my character reference , Dolores , I felt I could impart my voice to this use because if you see the moving picture , she gets mistaken for White , the sort of towards the top of the film by a white soldier . She has no qualms about avow herself and saying , " I am a Negro . " It was an chance for me , as Sarah , to embrace my pitch blackness because that ’s a journeying I ’ve been on in my personal life for a long prison term , not feel that I ’m white or black enough or what kind of community space I fit into , wanting to be respectful to the black residential district , but also be a part of it . It gave me the outer space to research that personally and on screen , which was coolheaded .
What was the most difficult aspect of production ? Was there any form of form of boot camp you had to do to get everyone on the same pageboy and mindset ?
We were lucky enough to have the incredible Debbie Allen choreograph us and run a boot clique along with our military consultant , Quay [ Terry ] , get us in cast and permit us get laid how accurate it must be , and nothing less will suffice . We ’re grow the march flop , toast , and the bidding down , but it took prison term and dedication and paid off . It looks great in the film , and then there are some of the kick camps where we had to crawl in clay , and I ’m always game for that kind of thing . Yes , it was incredible . It ’s one of the most authoritative and beautiful experience I ’ve had with a cast . They ’re all talented and kind peeress . Kerry is an unbelievable leader , both on - sieve and off . She is so gracious with her time and energy and so open to conversations and question , and watch her pilot such a bombastic circle as such an accomplished actress was beautiful . She ’s a wonderful woman . Watching Ebony , Milauna , and all the women in the battalion piece of work was special . Their performances are nothing short of a miracle , and I was blessed to witness it firsthand and be a part of it .
